Ricoh Imaging announced the release of the world’s smallest dustproof and weather resistant DSLR- PENTAX K-S2. The camera has elaborate features for easier outdoor shooting. In the press release, the company states that the high-end model comes with advanced specifications apart from the famous autofocus system.

Remote shooting functions

First and foremost, the remote shooting functions of the camera are the most novel features offered by the gadget as these are not available in any other PENTAX-K series. The wireless LAN and Near Field Communication (NFC) functions allow the user to pair the camera with smartphones and tablets.

It also provides an Image Sync application, the first of its kind, that allows the aperture, shutter-speed and ISO setting to be controlled by the device. Images can also be easily uploaded on Facebook by connecting the device with the camera using the app.

Variable angle LCD monitor

The LCD monitor provides distinctive clarity and cuts down reflection and dispersion of light. Ricoh Imaging also states in the press release that it introduced the variable-angle design for the first time in its series. This allows the user to shoot in varied angles with the ability to even take self portraits.

High performance CMOS image sensor

The image sensor contains nearly 20.12 megapixels and the ISO ranges up to 51200, which produce high resolution images. The PENTAX K-S2 contains a high-performance PRIME MII imaging engine, which provides fine gradation images with minimum noise when coupled with the image sensor.

Shake Reduction and Anti Aliasing (AA) filter stimulator

The Shake Reduction mechanism has been added for sharp images, which will help while using the telephoto lens or in low light settings. Meanwhile, the AA filter can be turned on and off as per the users liking to apply the desired effect to the image.

High Shutter Speed

Since the camera is built to suit outdoor shoots, it features specs to better accomodate the demands of such settings. With a shutter speed of 1/6000 second, being its highest, it allows the user to capture fast moving objects. “Coupled with its high-speed continuous shooting function with a top speed of approximately 5.5 images per second, it lets the photographer freeze once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities in beautifully focused images,” the press release states.

Optical viewfinder with nearly 100-percent field of view

Though the body is compact, the camera has a glass prism finder with a magnification of approximately 0.95 times. This makes it easy to frame the image and focus it.

Build

Unique for its compact and tiny size, Ricoh Imaging states that this is the world’s smallest dust proof and weather resistant camera. It has 100 seals on the most delicate and important parts, which protects it from dust, rain and extreme weather. It also comes with a super compact zoom lens, which has a focal length of 41mm.

The price of the camera starts at £549.99 for its body alone. According to Ricoh Imaging, the prices are as follows:
