A screenshot of Windows 10 has just been leaked and it shows the results of Microsoft’s decision to combine its full operating system for computers and its mobile DNA for smartphones and phablets. Although it may have already been previously announced that the company will be launching a unit with a display size that is smaller than eight inches, this is the first time that Microsoft users can see how the new version will look like.

The screenshot, which was actually obtained by WinBeta, gave users a sneak peek into an early build of Windows 10 – one that is intended for smaller tablets – with a tiled home screen.

What makes this newly leaked Windows 10 preview build stand out from its predecessor, is that it does not feature a desktop mode and will also not have the capability to run Win32 apps. The desktop has been taken off its list of features since it was purposely made without the “Continuum” feature, which, in turn, is actually one of today’s most awaited features by Microsoft users.

According to Slash Gear, removing the “Continuum” feature makes sense for Microsoft’s smaller tablets since it would most likely bring a lot of discomfort for users with seven-inch tablets to use or view the screen display when all of the desktop apps have been crammed into the screen.

That said, it would appear that the Windows 10 will only become efficient when used with smaller devices, just like Windows works best with phones and Windows RT.

Microsoft made it clear last January that its smaller tablets will be treated completely differently from their other products, such as smartphones, larger tablets, laptops, and desktops.

Although the unit will not be able to run Win32 apps, it can run Universal apps, which will simply scale across different screen sizes for the Windows 10. According to Tech Radar, although the build was compiled just last month, it remains unclear if it will be available in time for the tech company’s Build conference, which has been scheduled at the end of this month.
