Rhythm action games haven’t been shackled by any archetypes recently. While most games of the genre have simple tap motions mixed in with the timing of the music, other games like “Amplitude” use space ships to shoot the corresponding color for specific sounds. Now, game developer Incondra will attempt to mix a rhythm action game with an infinite runner in “Wicked World.”

“Wicked World” will have players controlling a ball, as it must go through various mazes in the game, while club music blares in the background. As the music goes on and the beat gets faster, more obstacles appear, in an attempt to make the player lose, so it will be up to him or her, to time the ball’s movements right with the music.

Seeing as how the mazes have no end, it could be considered an infinite runner, as brought up by Pocket Gamer. It appears to be the ideal mobile experience for rhythm game fans, as it keeps them on their toes like in “Temple Run,” but still has them coordinate with the beat of the sounds.

The game features an interesting visual style, with blocky textures and bright neon lights dominating most of the areas of the game as reported by Touch Tap Play. It seems like “Wicked World” is attempting to capture the experience of being in a club, or maybe even a disco ball, with all the bright neon colors and the club music playing in the background.

Interestingly, the game also changes viewpoints for the player, perhaps done in a way to increase the challenge as the game goes on. The game starts out in a horizontal manner, but as the music goes on the point of view changes to that of a side-scrolling game, looking very much like “Sonic the Hedgehog” from Sega.

Fans of rhythm action games or infinite runners should take note of “Wicked World,” as it’s currently in development for iOS devices right now. Though the game has no similarities to the “Wizard of Oz” inspired play, it could prove to be an enjoyable experience for mobile gamers and fans of club music.
