Woody Allen will always be one of the most famous on Earth but can be considered one of the shyest.

He has certainly drawn a lot of attention from the movies he has made and the life he has lived. Not to mention that he had a total of three Academy Awards along with nominations that amounted to 17, he now has a two-night focus on "American Masters" at PBS.

Can you imagine all this attention being given to someone who even prefers to be simply ignored? Even Scarlett Johannson considers him as "crippingly shy." His co-star in "Manhattan," Mariel Hemingway, said, "He doesn't talk to many people."

In fact, not many know that he does not even talk to his actors when he is in control of the responsibility to direct. He just lets everyone figure things on their own and if it does not work, he will fire some people and try all over again.

But one thing is for sure, once everything clicks, then you can be sure to have your lives changed, which happened to Jeff Daniels and Mira Sorvino.

Allen's shyness can be traced to his childhood in Brooklyn, when his parents rarely got along well. He started as a simple newspaper contributor of jokes which became such a hit that he was pushed to doing television shows. He did a lot of what others would consider as corny stuff, but everything still worked.

Then he pushed for writing and making movies which staggered for a good number of years. Most of the films he has done in the U.S. did not do as good as when he did them in Europe, particularly France. In fact, "Midnight in Paris" was his bestseller of all, with his next movie to be set in Rome.

There are certainly more films to be done by Allen in the coming years as he turns 76 Dec. 1. Overall, he has been spending almost 60 years of his life under the limelight, and all this time being very reluctant about it.
