What movies are coming out this week? [VIDEOS]
‘Fast Five’ starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson and which has continued to generate rave reviews leads the movies opening this week.
1. "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" (PG-13): Adapted from an Italian comic about a paranormal investigator, this horror comedy features Brandon Routh and Taye Diggs. (South Bay only.)
2. "Fast Five" (PG-13): Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of all the stars returning from the previous four film series, in what looks like a never-ending franchise of cars-and-mayhem-themed, - - ‘Fast & Furious’ film saga - - made more explosive and action driven film with Dwayne Johnson featured as the muscled agent out to get the bad guys. The crew of roiling testosterones with a group of hunk actors has to pull one last job in the heist film before they go off the radar.
3. "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" (NR): It is a documentary by Morgan Spurlock, the man behind "Super Size Me", exploring the history and methodology of product placement in movies and everyday life. (South Bay).
4. "Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil" (PG): This is an animated series featuring the voice of Glenn Close, Joan Cusack, Martin Short and Amy Poehler. The story revolves how Red Riding Hood, who was then training in the group of Sister Hoods was called in with the Wolf to solve the mysterious disappearance of Hansel and Gretel.
5. "Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen" (NR): Kung fu icon Chen Zhen (played in previous films by the likes of Bruce Lee and Jet Li) is back with Donnie Yen to take the role. This is a story about a mysterious stranger who befriended a local mafia boss after his arrival from overseas. The man, disguised as Chen Zhen, intends to infiltrate the mob when they form an alliance with the Japanese and goes on taking out everyone on the list prepared by the Japanese.
6. "My Perestroika" (NR): Director Robin Hessman's documentary looks at the lives of five Moscow classmates who grew up behind the Iron Curtain -- only to see the old Soviet Union crumble. Through the lives of these former schoolmates, this intimate film reveals how they have adjusted to their post-Soviet reality in today's Moscow. The film opens in San Francisco only.
7. "The Princess of Montpensier" (NR): Famed French director Bertrand Tavernier tells the tale of princess (Melanie Thierry) caught up in France's Wars of Religion and romantic passions. The drama is based on a novella by the celebrated Madame de Lafayette. The story centers on the love of Marie de Mezières for her dashing cousin Henri de Guise, thwarted when her father's political ambitions force her into marriage with the well-connected Philippe de Montpensier, who she has never met. The film is in French with subtitles. (South Bay opening)
8. "Prom" (PG): It's senior prom night at one high school, and while some relationships ignite, others unravel as secrets are revealed. Aimee Teegarden ("Friday Night Lights") heads the young cast as the girl who wants the perfect prom -- and then falls for a guy who will get in the way of her dreams. The film also stars Thomas McDonell ( Jesse Richter); DeVaughn Nixon (Tyler Barso); Danielle Campbell ( Simone Daniels); and Yin Chang (Mei Kwan).
9. "The Robber" (NR): Based on a true story, this film explores the life of Austria's greatest bank robber -- an obsessive loner who is also a champion marathon runner. In German with subtitles, the film stars Andreas Lust, Franziska Weisz and Florian Wotruba.
10. "Stake Land" (NR): It's your basic post-apocalyptic road movie -- with vampires. In this case, a ragtag group of survivors fights off repeated attacks from the undead. San Francisco only. The movie features Connor Paolo, Nick Damici and Kelly McGillis.
