“Westworld” has been greenlit for a second season. However, the show is not returning anytime soon, as the release date for its sophomore season is tentatively pencilled in for early 2018. HBO president has talked about when the show might return and the possible causes of delay.

There is also a chance that “Westworld” season 2 will make it this year. HBO president of programming Casey Bloys has talked about season 2 of the hit television series.

“I don't know if it will be fall of 2017 or into '18. That will depend as we get up and running,” Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter. He described the show as a big and ambitious.

Bloys said that since the production for “Westworld” season 2 is a big endeavour, he cannot provide a specific release date yet. “I can't speculate other than to say it'll either be '17 or '18. Probably more like '18,” he said.

Actor Luke Hemsworth (Stubbs) has also recently talked about the lengthy delay. “They are trying to get it right. They don’t want to go in doing what they were doing last time where they were under the cosh the whole time. They want to go in with a clear plan – A to Z and everything in between – at least have drafts in place,” Hemsworth told The Independent.

Viewers are hoping that “Westworld” season 2 will reveal more about how the hosts are made and what keeps them alive. Showrunner Jonathan Nolan has recently teased fans about what to expect from “Westworld” season 2. Nolan has shared that the next season will be defined by chaos.

The first season of “Westworld” started airing in Australia on Oct. 3 through Foxtel. It aired in the US and UK through HBO.
