A wanted New Zealand man has taunted police online after they posted an image of him on Facebook. Samuel Evan Lake told Christchurch police that he needed a new mug shot upon seeing his photo on the social media page.

The police have posted an image of Evan on their official page, appealing the public for help in locating the 23-year-old.

“WANTED TO ARREST: Samuel Evan LAKE has a warrant for his arrest. LAKE is 23 years of age, 171cm tall and of thin build. Date is tattooed on his neck,” the description read.

Minutes after the photo and description were posted, a Facebook user named Sam Lake posted a reply, saying, “I need to get a new mug shot.”

Thousands of people who thought he was funny liked his comment. The police also had a comeback of their own, which was liked by twice as many.

“Come see us and will arrange at no cost,” the witty exchange read.

“If only they were as good at finding me as they were with comebacks,” Lake responded.

He wasn’t finished taunting the police, though. He changed the mug shot to look like Ben Stiller doing his famous “blue steel” in the film “Zoolander.”

It’s unknown if Lake was really behind the Facebook account or if it was created by an online troll. His charge wasn’t mentioned, but a Reddit user claimed that Lake was wanted because he breached his home detention.

Hours later on Sunday, the police updated the post, informing people that they have captured Lake in Wellington.

The funny exchange has been deleted after Lake’s capture. However, the screenshot of which is still making rounds online.

A spokesperson for the Christchurch police told Daily Mail Australia that it’s not the first time a wanted person responded to posts asking public help in locating them. Their presence on social media has previously aided in their capture.
