“The Walking Dead” season 7, episode 9 returns on February 12 (13 in Australia) and a show exec is guaranteeing a different Rick the rest of the way. The leader of the pack will no longer be bullied, but he also won’t take the enemy too lightly either.

Spoiler alert: This preview contains plot details about “The Walking Dead” season 7. The season premiered Oct. 20. The series is available for Australian viewers to watch on Foxtel every Monday, 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

Poor Rick hasn’t had a nice season 7 so far. He’s been serving the enemy all throughout the first half of the season to avoid further casualties from his group. Negan brutally slaughtered Abraham and Glenn in the season opener and it will take a long time before Rick gets over their murders, if he ever does.

Fortunately, Rick realised during the “Walking Dead” midseason finale that he can mourn the tragic deaths of his two buddies and fight Negan at the same time. According to the show’s executive producer, Gale Anne Hurd, fans should expect the 2017 version of Rick to be different. Rick has awakened, and he’s ready to rally his troops to kick some Savior behinds.

“Rick and the gang have found their mojo again and they are going to work on rising up against Negan, and doing it right this time,” said Hurd as quoted by Digital Spy. “As we saw last season, they underestimated his strength and just how nefarious a leader he was. They’re not going to do that again.”

The second half of “The Walking Dead” season 7 is set to feature Rick’s skills in convincing the other colonies to join his cause. The Alexandrians alone cannot defeat Negan and the Saviors. They would need the help of Hilltop and the Kingdom.

The trailer for “The Walking Dead” season 7, episode 9 shows Rick trying to convince King Ezekiel to join him and his group against Negan and the Saviors. Rick even guarantees the leader of the Kingdom victory, further emphasising that there’s no backing down this time.
