Editor’s Note: This is the second in a series of reviews of “The Voice Australia” 2016 Superbattles, June 6 episode on Nine. The first part is right here.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Super Battle 3: Team Delta goes ‘Stage and Screen’

While coaches Jessie J and the Maddens picked the Universal Music Australia for their talks with their teams, coach Delta Goodrem took her team to The Star, a big entertainment venue in Sydney. She picked Maryann Wright, Shirin Majd, Elle Murphy and Adam Ladell (saved from Team Ronan) for her first superbattle.

Perhaps making good with her promise to give Shirin another opportunity to shine, Delta picked a theme that tackled songs from theatres and cinemas. Elle was first to hit the stage with “Skyfall” by Adele. She looked and sounded ready for public voting. Shirin took on “Habanera” and vindicated Delta for making a shocking choice in the June 5 episode. (Related story here.) Next up was Maryann, who did well with “I Don’t Know How To Love Him.” Adam was last to perform with “Safe and Sound,” which really showcased his radio-ready tone.

This time, Delta’s decision was not a shocker. Elle and Adam are in for the live shows; Shirin and Maryann went home. Both Ronan and Jessie agreed the two were the best in the group. (And these two rarely agree!)

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Super Battle 4: Team Ronan dishes songs from the Irish

At The Star, Coach Ronan Keating tried to motivate his team by naming some of the personalities who have held concerts in the same location. Then he announced his first superbattle group: Georgia Carey, Georgia Wiggins (saved from Team Madden), Emad Younan and Nina Ferro. Ronan said this group is varied in terms of experience. Still, what matters the most are their voice and performance, the coach said.

Georgia Carey was up first with Hozier’s “Someone New.” Her voice is so soothing and radio-ready. Nina took on U2’s “With or Without You” and took the audience on a lovely journey with it. Georgia Wiggins, the youngest teen in the group, delivered with the Cranberries’ “Zombie.” She stayed on the safe zone by keeping the original version, but nailed it anyway. Emad sang the classic “Danny Boy,” and he was mesmerizing. If she could choose only one, Jessie J said she’d pick Emad.

Ronan lauded them for delivering music with their heart and soul, then he proceeded to picking Emad and Georgia Wiggins. Nina and Georgia Carey went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Super Battle 5: Team Madden sings American anthems

To pick who will join Andrew Loadsman and Aaliyah Warren, the Madden brothers picked American anthem as their second group’s theme. Carmel Rodrigues (saved from Team Jessie J), Lexi Clark, Lane Sinclair and Talia Giancaspro were in this batch. Benjie and Joel Madden said it would be difficult to choose from this batch.

Carmel’s “I’d Do Anything For Love” (Meat Loaf) and Talia’s “Jolene” (Miley Cyrus) were both impressive as the talents have unquestionable vocal chops. There were just moments when they did not seem as connected to the song as they should have been, though. Lexi’s “Seven Nation Army” (The White Stripes) felt and sounded far more compelling. Lane was elegant and engaging with her take on “I’m on Fire” by Bruce Springsteen.

The Maddens decided to take Lexi and Lane to the live shows, saying they are the “most ready” for the lives. Their choice reconciled with Coach Ronan’s advice. Carmel and Talia went home.
