Editor’s Note: This is the third in a series of reviews of “The Voice Australia” 2016 Superbattles, June 6 episode on Nine. The first part is right here, and the second part is right here.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Super Battle 6: Team Delta sings Australian homegrown hits

Coach Delta Goodrem’s second group was composed of Marcia Howard, Kim Sheehy, Alfie Arcuri and Calvin Swart (saved from Team Jessie J). Two of them would join Elle Murphy and Adam Ladell. Delta picked some of the best Aussie songs for her team.

Kim kicked off the group’s superbattle with “Everyone’s Waiting” by Missy Higgins. She sounded lovely and ready. Calvin took on “Remind Me” by Conrad Sewell. He definitely stepped up this time. Marcia sang “Throw Your Arms Around Me” by Hunters & Collectors. She was classy and engaging. Although this was only his fourth public performance (wedding in family, blind auditions, battles), Alfie sounded like a pro with Daniel Merriweather’s “Red.”

Alfie is the first person that Delta picked from the four. And the next to the live shows is – Kim! This is a huge feat for Kim, who didn’t turn a chair in Season 2. Calvin and Marcia went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Super Battle 7: Team Ronan sings ‘Legends and Legacies’

Georgia Wiggins and Emad Younan were already set for live shows with coach Ronan Keating. The next two would come from Mitch Gardner, Tash Lockhart (saved from Team Delta), Sam Trenwith and Kayleigh Killick. They’ve all got so much talent, but so different from one another, Ronan said. He pushed them as hard as he could during the rehearsals, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.

Mitch was up first with The Beatles’ “Blackbird.” His sweet vulnerability and rich tone left the audience wanting for more. Kayleigh went up next with Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry On Their Own” and she opened up with a bit more of her soul this time. Tash was very much right in the zone and compelling with David Bowie’s “Heroes.” Sam delivered his best number yet with “It’s a Man’s World.” He truly looked ready for the live shows.

The first one in through the lives is Tash – an easy choice for Ronan. The second one was difficult for Ronan, who struggled listening to voices in his head: producer, record company strategist and then there’s his heart. Without saying which voice he listened to, he picked Mitch in a shocking decision. All the other coaches expect Sam would get in. Instead Sam and Kayleigh went home.

‘The Voice Australia’ 2016 Super Battle 8: Team Jessie caps the final pre-live eliminations

Mikaela Dean and Jack Pellow were picked from Team Jessie J’s first superbattle group. The two others would come from sisters Jasmine and Nada-Leigh Nasser (who were merged as a duo during the battles), Brianna Holm, Maddison McNamara (saved from Team Madden) and Ellen Reed. For them, Jessie’s theme was “Battle of the Brits.”

The first to sing in the group were the Nasser sisters. They looked and sounded like pop celebs on stage, singing “Wings” by Little Mix. Maddison was compelling with “Jealous” by Labrinth. Brianna came out quietly strong and steady with “The Scientist” by Coldplay. Ellen finished the group act with “Hold My Hand” by Jess Glynne. She was a real showstopper with a concert-level number.

Saying they all showed “massive” improvement, Jessie J picked Brianna for the live shows. And the final artist to be named for the live shows is Ellen!

To end the evening, host Sonia Kruger called to the stage the 16 talents who will vie for votes in “The Voice Australia” 2016 live shows:
