“The Vampire Diaries” is about to air its series finale and, for sure, the cast and crew are about to deliver something that the fans will remember forever. There is still so much left to wrap up, considering that Katherine (Nina Dobrev) has returned as the Queen of Hell. Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) are also finally united. Fans might also ask what happened to Bonnie (Kat Graham) after the Maxwell Bell was rung.

It also has to be considered that in the span of the eight seasons of “The Vampire Diaries,” there had been dopplegangers that just could not be forgotten. For Nina Dobrev’s appearances in “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals,” she assumed four different roles. This went from Tatia, an ancient exotic lady who was trapped in a hopeless triangle, to Elena, Damon’s love interest.

One of her most notable dopplegangers is Katherine Pierce, who is also played by Dobrev. When Klaus planned to sacrifice her way back in the 15th century, she instead had Rose turn her into a vampire. This, however, backfired and when she turned back into a human. Her body began deteriorating. To save herself, she had her soul secretly transferred to Elena. When she got defeated and was sent to hell, she took over as its queen.

Fans might already be restless anticipating what is in for them in the series finale. Fortunately, show’s creator Julie Plec was gracious enough to reveal to TV Guide what goes down in the final episode.

When asked why she thinks Katherine is the perfect villain to end the series with, she answered that Katherine is actually the villain who launched the series. Nobody knew it when the series started, but she was the reason that the brothers were vampires. Their shared love for her even put them at odds which each other, which repeated itself through Elena.

The extent of her participation in the show is just so intrusive that she has had a hand in every torture, misery and pain of almost everyone who has set foot in Mystic Falls. Thus, it would be perfectly fitting to make her the final villain for the series. This idea made them excited when they conceived it. They were happy they got Nina back so that they could fully deliver it. This only means that Elena would have to fight off the queen of the underworld who wants to make herself known through her.

The two-hour final episode of “The Vampire Diaries” will air on Friday 8 p.m. on The CW in the US. It will also air in Australia on FOX8.
