"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 mid-season finale episode shocked the fans with character Sheriff Forbes' (Marguerite MacIntyre) health condition. Stefan (Paul Wesley) already dismissed Caroline's (Candice Accola) suggestion of using vampire blood on her mother but executive producer Caroline Dries teased in an interview that the storyline will be explored more in the upcoming episodes.

In an exclusive Alloy Entertainment interview, TVD executive producer Caroline Dries claimed that integrating a human illness that cannot be cured on the CW TV series will definitely spice things up especially if it happened suddenly. Dries explained that the random and unexpected tragedy of cancer is what "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 tries to declare.

The TVD big boss further added that their supernatural show is all about death which ranges from trying to prevent, avoid or beat it. "Then, all of a sudden you get this very human illness and it's like, 'Oh! What do we do now?'" Dries shared.

The executive producer admitted that Sheriff Forbes' brain tumor obviously has no cure so the team behind the CW TV series decided to have the cancer storyline as a "curveball" in the mid-season finale episode titled "Christmas Through Your Eyes." Caroline Dries further teased that the TVD vampire characters will still consider using their vampire blood in order to cure Sheriff Forbes in the upcoming episode 11 titled "Woke Up With a Monster."

The executive producer admitted that the obvious thing to do to cure Caroline's mom at the moment is with vampire blood so it will be one of the storylines in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6, episode 11. In the upcoming episode, the executive producer revealed that the use of vampire blood to cure Sheriff Forbes will become an option.

Additionally, the TVD characters will be discussing the pros and cons of healing Caroline's mom through the supernatural way but the Mystic Falls gang are going to have different opinions when it comes to the issue. Lastly, Caroline Dries confirmed that the vampire blood storyline will be a major theme as the show moves forward. "Yes, for sure. It will be explored more in upcoming episodes," Dries stated.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 returns with episode 11 titled "Woke Up With a Monster" on Jan. 22, 2015 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW Network.
