"The Vampire Diaries" fans can now feast their eyes on the released CW promo photos for the upcoming Season 5 featuring cast members Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Candice Accola and the rest of the gang looking sizzling hot. The hit CW TV series is currently gearing up to burn the small screen when the favorite supernatural drama officially returns on Thursday, October 3.

The "Vampire Diaries" Season 5 Episode 1 has been given the title "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and it will focus on characters Elena Gilbert and Caroline Forbes entering Whitmore College. The best friends are expected to have a blast with their new life as college students even though Elena adjusts to her long-distance relationship with Damon Salvatore.

As for Caroline Forbes, she will be meeting a new guy and possible love interest named Jesse that actor Kendrick Sampson portrays. Other new faces to appear in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 include Australian actor Rick Cosnett as Whitmore college biology professor Dr Wes Maxfield and "True Blood" star Janina Gavankar as the "beautiful and exotic" character named Tessa who appears to be Stefan or Silas' old flame.

Additionally, the CW promo photos show that actor Michael Trevino reunites with the "Vampire Diaries" cast as character Tyler Lockwood. It is still unclear how and why Tyler returned to Mystic Falls, but the Zap2it report claims that it could have "something to do with Klaus heading off to New Orleans with the rest of his Original siblings."

The "Vampire Diaries" spin-off called "The Originals" is also set to premiere this coming October and the new TV series will be focusing on the Mikaelson siblings.

For the other TV characters, Jeremy Gilbert will be hanging out with the still dead Bonnie Bennet as the resident ghost whisperer of Mystic Falls. Main cast members Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev, on the other hand, will be pulling off the task of having double characters as Elena Gilber or Katherine Pierece and Stefan Salvatore or his evil doppelganger Silas ready to bring some trouble.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, October 3, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW network.
