In what the British Foreign Office are describing as “the most significant terrorist attack on the British people” since 7 July 2005, at least 30 British nationals have been reportedly dead in the Tunisia terror attack on Friday.

A 23-year-old gunman, identified to be Seifeddine Rezgui aka Aby Yahya al-Qayrawani opened fire in a Tunisian beach near Sousse and then entered a hotel to continue shooting, killing at least 38 tourists and injuring 39 others.

As opposed to earlier reports, 15 out of 38 victims to be killed were from the U.K., unofficial toll of British victims could have rose up to 30. Meanwhile, three Irish people were also among the dead in Sousse disaster later last week. A small number of victims were reportedly from Germany, Belgium and Ukraine.

Britain’s Home Secretary Theresa May has warned that identifying those killed would take time due to inadequate number of ID proofs.

A Glimpse At The Unfortunates

Three generations of a same family were also killed in the attack, which included 19-year-old Joel Richards, his 49-year-old man uncle and grandfather.

Carly Lovett, 24, a photographer and beauty blogger, Sue Davey and Scott Chalkley, a couple in their 40s, and Lisa Burbridge from Whickham, Gateshead were also confirmed dead.

While the Foreign Office has urged travellers to Tunisia to be especially vigilant, for, it fears more such terrorist attacks, the Tunisian authorities have deployed 1,000 extra police and military in beaches and resort hotels.

A Few Survivors Account

The gunman chased the 39-year-old tourist Chris Callaghan and shot in her leg, shattering her right femur. She was among those injured in the ISIS sponsored attack that took place at the beachfront Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba in the coastal city of Sousse. Ms. Callaghan told CNN, "My right leg was laying across my stomach," she added it is still visibly shaken.

76-year-old Nadezhda Vasilevna from Ukraine said, "I saw the man running and shooting. He shot at us. For those who moved, he fired again. I looked where he pointed the gun. When he aimed the weapon in my side, I felt a kick. The bullet went right through my soft tissues."

The Killer

According to a photo posted by ISIS, the attacker is allegedly from the town of Gaafour, about 100 miles northeast of Sousse. Media reports suggest, the Tunisian authorities have identified him as Saif Al-Deen Al Rezgui. Meanwhile, one of Al Rezgui's relatives and neighbours have identified him as the same man in the ISIS photo.
