There is a curious countdown on the official site of Creative Assembly's Total War series that has fans speculating as to what's coming. With seven days left, here's everything we know so far.

Viewers trying to enter the website will automatically be redirected to the countdown which ends March 31. The display is straightforward with the countdown dominating the space. The background is a misty jungle of sorts, with trees and mountains in the distance.

Looking further into the distance, there appears to be a temple or pyramid of sorts, which Game Debate notes to be either an ancient South American civilization or the elusive Lizardmen race for Total Warhammer. The site further notes that the landscape is parallel to Lustria, the Lizardmen's home content.

'Total War: Warhammer' Update: What we know so far

At this point, it is unconfirmed what will be released at the end of the month but Creative Assembly has revealed plans for a Warhammer trilogy. During a recent developer's update, the studio echoed the same sentiment.

"Excitement continues to build amongst the development team as the second part of the trilogy comes together, particularly as the distinctive races take shape and their playstyles solidify in campaign and battle," quoted GameSpot of the studio last week. "We're equally excited at the prospect of sharing details about the game’s gigantic scale and content with our community and wider fan base, as those plans come together in parallel."

At the same venue, the studio further shared that the next major historical release was underway. The build priorities centred on maintaining character design, key period personalities and eye-catching combat animation.

Game Debate adds that the big reveal will likely be one of three things, a brand new Total War game like "Total War: Ancient Civilizations," a massive "Total Warhammer" Lizardmen expansion or "Total War: Warhammer 2."

"Total War: Warhammer" is a strategy game that allows players to immerse themselves in empire-building and real-time battles. There are four races: the Empire, the Dwarfs, the Vampire Counts and the Greenskins, each has their own characters, playstyle, and tactics. Players lead their forces into battle as one of eight Legendary Lords from the Warhammer Fantasy Battles World. Along the way, gamers collect fabled weapons, armour and deadly battle magic won from individual quest chains.

At this point, fans will have to wait until next week to learn what's new. However, one thing is sure: "Total War" fans have something big coming up.
