Ten daily flights are available to Australians after the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) allowed Tiger Airways on Tuesday to increase its flights from Singapore to Australia.

The approval is timely because of the approach of the Christmas travel season and recent Qantas fleet grounding.

With the decision, Tiger would have 32 daily flights to Australia from the current 22 trips. CASA allowed the Singapore-based budget carrier to resume of Aug. 2 its 22 flights after it grounded the airline's 10 Airbus A320s on July 2 due to safety risks.

The additional flights would mean two daily extra flights between Sydney and Singapore and one extra daily service to Perth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Tiger said it will release soon the flight schedules of the 10 new trips.

The 10 new flights are expected to improve the air carrier's Australian operations which registered a $A20.7 million operating loss for the third quarter of 2011. Tiger Chief Executive Chin Yau Seng said the 10 flights would allow the company's Australian business to break even.
