David Bowie’s fans don’t like Kanye West covering his songs. An online petition to stop Kim Kardashian’s husband from recording the late music icon’s songs has amassed almost 5,000 signatures in just one day.

There has been a report claiming West is planning to record covers of Bowie’s music. According to a source, West is “determined to carry on David’s work as a musical innovator.”

“He says that the torch has been passed to him,” the insider told the Daily Star. As for how the rapper would arrange the album, he would apparently give it his own flavour.

“Some are straightforward cover versions with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie’s music.”

The idea that West would sing Bowie’s songs isn’t warming up to some people. A petition to stop the American singer from touching Bowie’s legacy has been created online, and it has already amassed almost the goal of 5,000 signatures in less than a day.

“David Bowie was one of the single most important musicians of the 20th and 21st century, it would be a sacrilege to let it be ruined by Kanye West,” read the petition titled “Stop Kanye West Recording Covers of David Bowie’s Music.”

One of those who signed explained, “Kanye West doesn’t have the talent to match Bowie, a real song artist, nor does he have the right to make Bowie’s death about him.”

“Sacrilegious,” another one simply wrote.

As of the time of writing, the petition, created by Peter Piranha, has 4,945 signatures.

West was one of the many celebrities who paid tribute to Ziggy Stardust following news of his death.

Bowie died from liver cancer on Jan. 10, two days after his 69th birthday and the release of his final album, “Blackstar.”
