Now that R.E.M. has called it "quits" let's look back at some of their best music videos and live performances during their long, 31-year run.

With 15 Albums and a long 31-year career, R.E.M. has established themselves as one of the leading innovators of alternative rock. With versatile hits such as "Losing My Religion" and the somber "Everybody Hurts," the band has projected their rawness and truthfulness through their sound and style.

Lead by singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, drummer Bill Berry and Mike Mills on bass, R.E.M. was formed in 1980 in Athens, Georgia. Their debut album, "Murmur," was released in 1983, but it was not until 1988 when the band gained recognition for their record "Green," which included the song "Turn You Inside Out."

R.E.M. truly became a staple in the industry when they released their 1991 hit single "Losing My Religion" from the record "Out of Time." It was then that the band penetrated the mainstream and brought many hits for the people to sing while in their cars or watching the band play live. R.E.M. released "Automatic for People", which included their eternal hits "Everybody Hurts." And "Man on the Moon."

The Band announced on Wednesday that they are parting ways after more than 30 years of playing, recording, and touring together.

"A wise man once said - 'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave'. We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we're going to walk away from it. I hope our fans realise this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way" wrote front man Stipe in their official site.
