JK Simmons, who played the role of Detective O’ Brien in “Terminator Genisys,” has hinted at the possibility of a follow up to “Terminator Genisys.”

“We are hopeful that we’re going to make a couple more, but the trigger has not been officially pulled,” he said to Screen Rant.

If the sequel gets greenlit, the actor would like to reprise his character as O’Brien in it. He told Zap2It, “O’Brien was a very fun guy to start to investigate and yeah, really looking forward to hopefully having the opportunity for more O’Brien.”

In “Terminator Genisys,” Simmons played the role of the SFPD detective who investigates the events that he became embroiled in 1984. And after 33 years, in 2017, he again meets the two principal characters of that year’s event and assists them -- Emilia Clarke’s character Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney’s character Kyle Reese.

“Terminator Genisys,” directed by Alan Taylor, was set in three time zones, 2035, 2017 and 1984. It concerned Connor, Reese and the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who come together to fight the evil terminators.

Meanwhile, talking about the “Terminator Genisys’” sequel, Schwarzenegger said in an interview that the studio may have plans to make two more films. He, however, was not sure if he would reprise his role, Cinema Blend reported. He said that the sequel would be made if people demand for it, and he did not play Guardian in the fifth installment of "Terminator" series thinking that there will be a sixth film.
