Singer-songwriter pop sensation Taylor Swift strikes a deal with the world’s largest book publisher, Scholastic Books and announces the donation of 25,000 books to 25 New York City schools.

Each school with receive 1,000 new children’s books designed to promote reading among children.

The press release reads, “Scholastic is honoured to join with Taylor Swift who continues to show a passion for literacy and a commitment to spreading the message of how influential books can be in a child’s life,” said Greg Worrell, President of Scholastic Education. “Through this donation, we aim to encourage independent reading which inspires a love of learning and to ‘Open a World of Possible’ for more New York City students by making sure they have access to the very best children’s books.”

Principal Nova Xiomara of Juan Pablo Duarte School intends to incorporate the donated books in the school’s library to be accessed by the students.

The Grammy Award winning artist is a supporter of the company’s “Open a World of Possible” program, which is a reading initiative campaign that emphasizes the value of reading during a child’s formative years. The program works in conjunction with “The Scholastic Possible Fund” which provides donations of quality books to impoverished communities recovering from crises or natural disasters with the goal of promoting global literacy.

Almost 44 million books has been donated by the initiative since 2000.

In October last year, Swift hosted a webcast where she sat with 6 students while being watched by other students in classrooms. She shared how reading books influenced her work as an artist and how it opened her imagination. Since then, the video has been viewed by more than 4.5 million students in the U.S.

Scholastic Books is the publisher of the worldwide phenomenon, "Harry Potter" series.
