A Swedish woman asked the police to file harassment charges against her suitor who allegedly released bad air in her apartment when she changed her mind about having sex with the man. The resident of Lahom invited the suitor to her flat for sex, but she decided not to push through with her original plan.

The woman, in her police complaint, described the suitor’s fart as smelling awful, reports Hallandsposten, an online Swedish newspaper. But Swedish police dropped the case, described by WikiTerms as revenge fart.

Explaining why the police did not pursue harassment charges, which has a penalty of one year prison term or fine, against the suitor, police spokesman Kenneth Persson says, “It’s impossible to prove that he wanted to pass particularly smelly wind on purpose,” quotes Agence France-Presse.

Perhaps the man was even trying to protect her health. In November 2015, researchers at Exeter University claimed that flatulence smell has secret health benefits such as preventing strokes, cancer, heart attacks and dementia.

The scientists explain that fart, which contains hydrogen sulfide produced by bacteria, breaks down food in the gut. While it could be toxic in large amount, in small doses, such as bad wind, it helps battle illness and protects cells, reports Mirror.

Cells stressed by disease draw in enzymes to generate their small quantities of hydrogen sulfide. It is a chemical that helps preserve mitochondria to drive energy production in blood vessel cells and regulate inflammation. Without hydrogen sulfide, cells could switch off and die.

To assist the body in producing the right amount of hydrogen sulfide it needs, researchers have developed a new compound, AP39. However, for many people like the suitor, they don’t need the help of scientists to produce hydrogen sulfide. All they have to do is eat certain foods such as beans and sweet potatoes to produce farts which could come out unexpectedly during the most embarrassing moments.
