Oh my Chuck! “Supernatural” is bringing back fan favourite Rob Benedict this season to reprise his role as the prophet Chuck Shurley, or, what fans firmly believe, God. He will be joining regular cast Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, as Sam and Dean Winchester, for an undisclosed plot.

TV Line reports exclusively about Chuck/God’s reappearance. Details about Benedict’s return are kept under wraps, though he will be seen this current season.

As it has been revealed earlier, Amara/the Darkness (Emily Swallow) is God’s sister who is hell-bent on taking revenge on her brother for locking her up. Perhaps the 11th season ender will see Amara finally meeting God for an epic confrontation. Benedict could also appear in a few episodes to give the Winchesters much-needed tips on defeating his sister.

Chuck reappearing in the season where the main villain is intent on finding God reinforces the popular theory that Chuck is indeed God himself.

After disappearing at the end of the fifth season (by orbing out, no less), Chuck was thought to be dead when a new prophet, Kevin Tran (Osric Chau), took his place. He was last seen in the 200th episode special, “Fan Fiction,” in which he told Marie that her school play about the Winchesters was “not bad.”

Season 11 appears to invite a lot of fan favourites back in the show. TV Line reported in January that Jim Beaver and Steven Williams will reprise their roles as Bobby Singer and Rufus Turner for an episode via flashbacks. Bobby was last seen helping Castiel (Misha Collins) in heaven in the “Inside Man” (10th season), while Rufus was killed in the sixth season.

“[Dean and Sam] are going to be investigating an old case that was once investigated by Bobby and Rufus,” executive producer Jeremy Carver told the website, adding that the “really neat” episode will see the “wonderful relationship between Bobby and Rufus.”

“Supernatural” is on Eleven in Australia every Monday.
