Floriana Lima grabs a regular series role on the upcoming second season of DC’s Superhero drama.

The series which primarily aired on CBS and now on CW gets Floriana Lima from the Family for a regular role to play Maggie Sawyer, a lesbian detective for the National City Police Department who takes a peculiar interest in aliens, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Maggie Sawyer was introduced by her creator John Byrne in 1987 as a captain of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit wherein she was a very skilful and innovative member of the Science Police, which specialized in people with superpowers known as Metahumans.

In the later titles, she was revealed to be a lesbian, which then makes her amongst the pioneering openly lesbian characters in a comic. She also appears in different DC Comics, and would even be shown as a romantic partner for Batwoman.

The character also appeared numerous times in Smallville wherein she was played by Jill Teed. The addition of an intelligent and strong lesbian character in the popular series is sure to add more colour and excitement to the popular TV series.

Floriana Lima does not only appear lovely and perfect for the role, but she is an experience one too. Previous works include NBC’s Allegiance, Fox’s The Mob Doctor and Poor Paul. She is managed by AKA Talent Agency and Insutry Entertainment. Her casting comes as a result of the transfer to CBS which also includes the addition of Cougar Town’s Ian Gomez who will play Snapper Carr, says a post on TV Line.

Other new members of the cast include Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin who will appear as the iconic Superman, while former Wonderwoman Lynda Carter would be elected as President of the United States.

With the addition of new cast members and iconic characters to the DC Comics inspired series, it looks like the network transfer and the necessary additions has made the series a better and more exciting one.

"Supergirl" Season 2 is set to premiere on October 10, 2016 at 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. on the CW channel. It also airs on Syfy in Australia.
