Viola Davis recently revealed details about her role as Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad” during the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. She also shared how she relates to her character and her reason for taking up the role.

Viola Davis told CBR News while on the red carpet at the annual GLAAD Media Awards that she could relate to her role personally, because of Amanda Waller’s personality. "Everything that I’m reading and studying about her: unapologetic, no humor, just brutal. That’s me!" she said. The Oscar-nominated actress also revealed that she took the role of Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad” because she finds the character a “badass.”

Furthermore, Davis teased there are perks to playing the character in the film. She admitted that it’s always been her fantasy to use a gun although she would never do it in real life. However, she gets to experience that fantasy with her role in “Suicide Squad.” “When I get a gun on a set, it does something to me,” she added.

Whether “Suicide Squad” will take the classic route with Amanda Waller is still unknown. However, according to Screenrant, Viola Davis’ admission that she gets to hold a gun in the film does not reflect the character in the comics. The classic Amanda Waller reportedly isn’t a gun-wielding head of the Task Force X. But with David Ayer (“Fury”) as the movie director, it’s supposedly safe to assume that sooner or later each cast in the film, regardless of their respective roles, would somehow get to hold their own firearm.

Viola Davis is said to be the perfect choice to play Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad.” The Tony-winning stage star, who also plays as a tough defense law professor in “How To Get Away With Murder,” is said to be a scene stealer per Comicbook movie reader CherryBomb. Likewise, her involvement in the 2016 film is believed to be the best casting so far, according to reader Daniellantern, and hopes she’s going to definitely “own the role.” Likewise, reader Dukov called Davis one of the best actresses with monumental talent, and looks forward to see her take up the role of one of the toughest character in the DC Universe.
