A concept art for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has been released online, showing how Lupita Nyong’o’s character will look like in the film. The actress will reportedly portray the role of a space pirate named Maz Kanata.

The photo shared by Indie Revolver gives a detailed look at Maz Kanata. The alien-looking character is believed to be who Lupita Nyong’o will portray through motion capture in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” According to the site, the space pirate was briefly featured in the second trailer released for the film. Indie Revolver shared a screen shot of the scene where a character is seen handing out a lightsaber to Princess Leia. Writer Jay Carlson said the “profile of the face at the top right of the frame” belongs to Maz Kanata. However, the tease is said to be a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot that viewers may not have noticed the image right away.

The photo gives a solid look at Lupita Nyong’o’s character, which was always referred to with the codename “Rose” in previous reports. The “Star Wars: The Force Awaken” issue of Vanity Fair finally revealed her true character name in the film. The May issue also featured some photos of the actress dressed in her motion capture suit while filming.

However, Jason Ward from Making Star Wars doubts the photo provides a final look at Maz Kanata. Sources have reportedly previously said the pirate will also have some markings on her face in the film.

Details have yet to be revealed regarding Lupita Nyong’o’s role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” According to Movieweb, previous rumours described her as a bar owner who befriended Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega). One scene in the film would supposedly show the pair meeting Maz Kanata at her bar and from there the pirate decides to help Finn and Rey on their quest to find Luke Skywalker so they could give him back his lightsaber.

Writer Alan Orange said that in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” concept art for Maz Kanata, the character looks like she "fits more into the vibe of the prequel trilogy more so than the original trilogy. That might be because she is motion-capture CGI and not a practice effect."
