Work on the first trailer of “Star Wars: Episode 8” reportedly began weeks ago. The video is set to be released during the Celebrations event in April. Meanwhile, a new fan theory has surfaced online about the character Benicio Del Toro will be playing in the upcoming film.

The Managing Editor of Fandango and MoviesDotCom Erik Davis confirmed in a tweet that work began on the trailer weeks ago. The film is currently in the post production phase of development.

Rian Johnson is currently busy putting a rough cut of the film together. Dialogues and music will be added in this phase, and the director will also tweak the special effects. The film will then go into the final editing phase in which it will be decided what scenes to keep and which ones will be deleted.

Although the first full trailer is expected in April, the fans may get to see a teaser long before that. The producers are yet to reveal the title of “Star Wars: Episode 8.”

Meanwhile, a video posted on the YouTube channel short Stormtrooper looks at what character Del Toro will be playing in the film. The fan’s theory states that the actor could be playing the role of Talon Karrde, a character from the non-canon Legends.

Talon Karrde was a smuggler and a powerful information broker in the galaxy. In the Legends, the character has been described as honourable, honest and low profile.

“The Force Awakens” already established the presence of information brokers who seek to profit from the ongoing fight between the First Order and the New Republic. The sequel is a good opportunity to introduce a high ranking figure from the underworld, like Jabba the Hutt in the original trilogy.

The storyline of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) also closely resembles the one in the Legends, in which he was exiled after a Jedi turned to the Dark Side of the Force. The fan theory suggests that “Star Wars: Episode 8” will not just be about a fight between two forces in the galaxy, and will instead focus on multiple groups, factions and organizations in the now chaotic galaxy.
