“Star Trek Beyond” is currently filming in Vancouver, Canada and leaked pictures from the production set show new Starfleet uniforms and a new alien character. A behind-the-scenes video of the filming had surfaced online but has since been taken down after copyright complaints by Paramount. [Spoiler Alert!]

The pictures posted on ScreenCrush show cast members Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella and Anton Yelchin filming a scene. Some of the actors can be seen exiting what is said to be a damaged spacecraft and are surrounded by green screens.

Boutella appears to be playing a character from a new alien species in the movie. She is said to be playing a “lead role” in the movie, but details about her character haven’t been officially made available. The report also notes that there has been a change in the Starfleet uniform.

The cast members apparently rehearsed and filmed their scene for about three hours on set. The scene they were filming involved Boutella’s character using a gadget after she exits the spacecraft. The report notes that her equipment does not appear to be from Starfleet, and this indicates that she may be from a different faction in “Star Trek Beyond” and is only collaborating with the crew of the USS Enterprise in their new mission.

The leaked pictures also show that there were some lighter moments on set. Pegg, who will be reprising his role as Scotty and who is also one of writers of the script, can be seen entertaining his fellow cast members Pine (Captain Kirk) Boutella and Yelchin (Chekov).

Apart from Boutella, another new cast member in the movie is Idris Elba. The actor appeared with Pine in a charity video for Omaze, and the two actors jokingly appeared argumentative in the video, with Pine constantly interrupting Elba while he spoke his lines and the latter finally saying that he is the new Captain Kirk in the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , the video comes after rumours surfaced that Elba will be playing the role of Kirk’s rival in Starfleet in “Star Trek Beyond.” The two characters may be competing for the captaincy of USS Enterprise. There have been no official announcements detailing the plot of the movie or about Elba’s character so far. The movie is slated to be released on July 8, 2016 in the U.S.
