Actress Lupita Nyong'o, who stars in the movie "12 Years a Slave," poses for a portrait in Los Angeles, California November 13, 2013. In preparing for her first film role as a petite, hard-laboring slave in "12 Years a Slave" Nyong'o sized herself up against 500 pounds of cotton, which her character Patsey picked every day. The film itself is considered a heavyweight Oscar contender, having won widespread praise for its brutal depiction of pre-Civil War American slavery. "12 Years a Slave" is based on the 1853 memoir of Solomon Northup, a free black man tricked and sold into slavery who cannot fathom the hell he has landed in on Louisiana plantations. Lupita Nyong’o’s character Maz Katana will not be seen till “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” release in December, the actress said in a recent interview. Meanwhile, other cast members were asked about their costumes in the movie, and all of them showered high praise on designer Michael Kaplan.

Nyong’o was at Disney’s D23 Expos recently and according to a report by Slashfilm the actress said that her character will not be seen before the movie is released.

“All you get is dots on my face,” the actress told the media. Maz is a CGI character that was created using motion capture technology.

A picture of the actress on VanityFair showed how the actress helped create her character. The photo shows the actress with several dots on her face that are used to capture the expressions of the actress for her character. Maz is a pirate and will be seen at a castle in the movie.

The actors who have been seen more prominently in the trailers and posters of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” are Oscar Isaac as the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, Daisy Ridley as the female lead Rey and John Boyega as the male lead Finn. Speaking to MTV recently, the cast members shared their thoughts about their respective costumes.

Isaac said that Kaplan is an “amazing costume designer” and that he has created some “iconic” costumes for the movie. The actor explained that the costumes will be “fused” with the characters in the movie. Ridley felt that her costume was “amazing to wear,” and they look “gorgeous” in the posters of the movie.

Boyega pointed out that it was hard to film his scenes in the desert wearing a leather jacket or a Stormtrooper costume. The actor later added that despite the challenges he faced while filming, his costumes make him “look cool” and said that he loves the costumes in the movie. He also said that while the costumes were a new design, they do pay homage to the designs of the original trilogy.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is slated to be released on Dec. 17, 2015 in Australia. This will be the first movie from the franchise in about a decade. The story in the movie has been set 30 years after the events of the original trilogy.
