Logan Lerman, Sam Strike and Dylan O’Brien were among the actors previously rumoured to have been eyed by Marvel to be the next Spider-Man in the reboot. However, considering that Marvel is said to be looking for teenagers to portray the character, a new report has indicated that “Weeds” star Mateus Ward has actually already auditioned for the role.

The 16-year-old Mateus Ward has already auditioned for the role of Spider-Man in secret, according to Badass Digest. Writer Devin Faraci said an anonymous source has mentioned that Ward’s audition took place in private. “It was so super secret they held the audition at a house, not any sort of office, but word leaks out, as it always will,” he said.

It’s still unknown if Mateus Ward got the part. But Faraci said his audition certainly confirmed rumours Marvel is eyeing to cast teenagers, specifically 16 to 17 year old actors, to play as Peter Parker in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Likewise, the “Weeds” star’s rumoured audition also gives credence to Sony’s statements during a press release that it would still be Peter Parker and not Miles Morales who will be introduced as the web crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel definitely needs to cast its Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man soon considering the character will have a cameo role in “Captain America: Civil War.” The latter will reportedly start shooting in two weeks’ time, sometime in April.

Whether Mateus Ward is deserving the Spider-Man role remains unknown. According to IGN, his resume so far consists of TV appearances and few movie roles. Aside from his role in Showtime’s “Weeds” Ward also portrayed the role of Jake Sanders in the CBS mini-series “Hostages.” His previous films listed down by IMDB involves portraying the role of young Franky in the 2013 film "Lonely Boy" and Ward also appeared in "Lab Rats" and "Outnumbered."

Mateus Ward has yet to comment on his rumoured audition for the “Spider-Man” reboot as Peter Parker. His recent Twitter activity consists of a shared photo on March 23 captioned “Squad” and interestingly, he also made a retweet on March 22 of user EJ’s post which had the hashtag #watchouteverybody written on it.
