In the process of rejuvenating its submerging smartphone business, Sony just announced two new mid-range phones, the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5, both with a firm emphasis on photography. Both the handsets will be available in select countries across emerging markets starting mid-August. Sony is likely to reveal the pricing of both the handsets at launch locally.

Sony officially announced both the smartphones on a blog post titled, “Sony Mobile continues its innovation in imaging with the introduction of two best in class super mid-range smartphones.” The post further illustrates that the Xperia C5 Ultra introduces an industry first “twin 13-megapixel front and rear camera” and the Xperia M5 “has an impressive 21.5MP main camera”.

Xperia C5 Ultra

The Xperia C5 Ultra which is the successor to the Xperia C3. The handset features two 13-megapixel Exmor RS cameras - one on the back, one on the front. Both the front and rear cameras are accompanied by LED flash to ensure that every selfie is the best selfie. Sony markets the Xperia C5 Utra as a new “pro-selfie smartphone” with “near borderless” display. The device sports a 6-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS display powered by Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine 2, reports NDTV Gadgets . The device also houses 2GB of RAM and a 2,930mAh battery which the company claims would be good for two days.

Some of the main attractions of the Xperia C5 Ultra include:

  • Auto scene recognition,
  • Video stabiliser as well as image stabiliser
  • 25mm wide-angle lens (rear) with an 80-degree field of view and even 22m wide-angle lens (for the front camera)
  • 4x digital zoom
  • Full-HD video recording,
  • Geo-tagging
  • Red-eye reduction

Xperia M5

The Xperia M5 which the company refers to as the “super mid-range” smartphone features a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display. The device sports a 21.5 megapixel camera on the back and a 13 megapixel front camera with Sony's Exmor RS sensor.

  • The front shooter also features Hybrid autofocus and f/2.2 aperture
  • The rear camera offers 5x image zoom, 4K video recording, auto scene recognition, image stabiliser and geo-tagging.

Additionally, the Sony Xperia M5 is powered by a gigantic 2GHz 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor with 3GB of RAM, says a report on CNET. Moreover, the Sony Xperia M5 also features IP65 and IP68 certification making the handset water and dust proof. The mid-range “waterproof Android smartphone” houses a cap-less USB port as well.
