Sony is already working on the successor to the Xperia Z3 in the form of the Xperia Z4. But now, the latest news is that, the Sony Xperia Z3 will be receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop, along with other Z series of devices.

Michael Fasulo, COO of Sony Electronics, confirmed that Sony will roll out the Android 5.0 update for the 2013 flagship Xperia Z3 starting February, during the announcement of new devices at CES 2015. Nonetheless, the exact date was not mentioned, says Phone Arena.

Following the official announcement, Sony's Mobile global PR team tweeted the exact information. [Scroll down to check out the tweet.] In hindsight, during the October 2013 time-frame, Sony stated that the entire premium Xperia Z series of devices will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop software update, notes NDTV.

Notably, the Sony Xperia Z line-up includes the first set of devices like the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. Followed by, the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z3v, notes the same site.

Even with no confirmation on the exact release date, several media reports claim that the Sony Xperia Z3 series will be the first set of devices to receive Android Lollipop update in February. In addition, apparently, Sony also tweeted stating that the Xperia Z2 will also receive the latest OS update in the beginning of 2015, says NDTV. Therefore, it is safe to say that, all Sony Xperia Z series of devices will reportedly start receiving the Lollipop update very soon.

It is worth mentioning that, Sony officially released the Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP device configuration source in November 2013, along with the pre-built software binaries and build instructions binaries for several Xperia Z handsets. This includes the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact.

Moving on to the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4, there is reportedly a good chance that the handset will see the light of the day at the Mobile World Congress event i.e. MWC 2015, scheduled in Barcelona. Lastly, here is the official tweet from Sony Mobile News confirming the Xperia Z series' Android L update:
