E.L James bestselling novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" has always been criticized for its erotic content and famously referred to as "mommy porn" by various critics. However "Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam, who was once considered to play the role of kinky billionaire Christian Grey in the movie, has come out in the defense of the novelist.

"Mommy porn" is a general term used for a novel or any erotic literature that enjoys popularity among housewives and middle-aged women. James' record-breaking novel was also put in this category by several critics for its erotic nature and huge popularity it enjoys among this genre of women. However, 34-year-old Hunnam differs from critics. He believes that the people really reduce the brilliant book "Fifty Shades of Grey" to a very low level when they use such terms for it.

"I think people really do that book a disservice when they reduce it to that type of talk," Hunnam revealed in a recent interview at the Television Critics Association press tour, according to US Weekly.

"What [E.L. James] actually created is a really sophisticated dynamic and presented it in a package which was accessible to people who normally would be terrified of that subject," the blonde hair actor said.

"Actually what she did was pretty brilliant," Charlie added further.

E.L. James erotic and bondage-themed novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" enjoyed phenomenal popularity among readers of all age group and is now being converted into a movie by the same name. Charlie Hunnam was first roped in to play the role of a billionaire Christian Grey, who has a shady past in the story. However, the actor was soon replaced by Jamie Dornan.

Hunnam has maintained his silence ever since his exit from the role of the protagonist Christian Grey but during the recent interview he revealed that he was in fact quite disheartened that he couldn't do the role because of his busy schedule. He also revealed that he was quite prepared for the role and had a very clear idea of what the role demanded from him.

Charlie is however also happy by the current choice of Jamie Dornan, who he believes is better looking than him and "a lot smoother" for the role of an extremely attractive Christian Grey - who uses his charm to win heart of a virgin college girl Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson. The movie is scheduled to be released on Valentine's Day in 2015.
