Known as the man behind “The Shield” and “Sons of Anarchy,” Kurt Sutter turned 55 on May 6, Wednesday, after wrapping up the production of his new TV series, “The Bastard Executioner.” Sutter’s new medieval series started it production in March for the show’s pilot episode after his biker drama series ended its final season in December.

“I turn 55 in 15 minutes,” Sutter posted on his Twitter account. “5/5/15. Have a margarita in my honor. Followed by some outlandish, inappropriate behavior.”

Born in Clark, New Jersey, the screenwriter/actor also appeared as a hitman Margos Dezerrian on “The Shield” and outlaw Otto Delaney in SOA. Married to his “Sons of Anarchy” leading lady Katey Sagal (Gemma Teller), the controversial showrunner started as a staff writer for the first season of the FX crime drama back in 2002.

After writing a few episodes in the show, he was promoted to story editor for the show’s second season and joined the production team as a junior co-producer for the third season. He was promoted as supervising producer in 2005 and became an executive producer in 2007. Sutter finished the show as one of the most prolific writer next to executive producer Shawn Ryan.

After the massive success of “The Shield,” Sutter created and executive produce “Sons of Anarchy” in 2008. The show follows the story of a motorcycle club in the fictional town of Charming. The show lasted for seven season and ended with strong ratings for the network.

Now waiting for the network’s green light for his upcoming show, the long-haired series creator is currently promoting his latest project “Southpaw.” Scheduled to be released on July 31, “Southpaw” was directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker and Rachel McAdams.

Sutter wrote the sports drama film for rapper Eminem as he was inspired by Mather’s personal struggle. He revealed that he took meetings with the “8 Mile” star for the past seven years looking for something to do together. The movie features a “metaphorical narrative” of the rapper’s life played by Gyllenhaal, a world champion boxer who hit rock bottom and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter.

Here are the seven bad*ss quotes of Kurt Sutter to celebrate his 55th birthday.

  1. On having a parrot: “This is sort of my midlife crisis. I’ve suddenly decided to collect birds. Which I guess is better than, you know, crack and hookers.”
  2. On meeting Charlie Hunnam: “From my first meeting with Charlie, I knew that he was a star. He has that energy and he just has that persona. But you throw leather and you put somebody on a motorcycle, you’re just upping the bad-boy stakes there. If I can make Boone [who plays Bobby] look sexy, you know, come on [laughs].”
  3. On “Sons of Anarchy” Season 7 finale: “I had a sense from the beginning of this ride that I liked the notion of Jax being brought to the same place of his father but getting it right. You know what I mean? And the idea that he was going to go out in the same way—whether it’s tribute, whether it’s going out on the road—but I wasn’t sure how much of it I was gonna leave up to the imagination of people.”
  4. On himself: "I'm a smart*ss with a big mouth and without filters.”
  5. On people’s perception of him: "I'm way too hypersensitive. I'm not the kind that can let shit roll off my back. I can be in a room where 999 people love me and I will focus and obsess about the one dude who doesn't."
  6. On growing up: “Food was my first drug of choice. By the time I was a teenager, I weighed 400 pounds. I didn't really have a girlfriend. At 400 pounds, people don't want to f**k you, because you can crush them to death."
  7. On writing: “When I'm not writing, I don't quite know who I am. I'm lost a little bit. It's like, what am I? Who am I? What am I doing? I don't do well. Idle hands and all.”
