Currently feeling the pressure to finish the two additional books in “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, renowned author George R.R. Martin announced recently that he won’t be penning an episode in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” Season 6. Despite having written several episodes in the show’s previous seasons, Martin revealed that he wanted to devote his time on writing “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth book in the series.

“After wrestling with it for a month or so, I’ve decided not to script an episode for season six of 'Game of Thrones,'” Martin wrote on his Not A Blog blog. “Writing a script takes me three weeks, minimum, and longer when it is not a straight adaptation from the novels. Writing a season six script would cost me a month’s work on 'Winds', and maybe as much as six weeks, and I cannot afford that.”

With complete trust to series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Martin assured fans that the scriptwriting chores for “Game of Thrones” Season 6 are well-covered. He revealed that he will focus all his energies for “Winds of Winter” and even cancelled upcoming appearances in the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga and the San Diego Comicon.

Martin also informed his fans that he is not cancelling all his appearances, which means that he is still the Guest of Honour in Seattle for Norwescon and Kansas City for Conquest on Memorial Day. He explained that he was not a Guest of Honour at San Diego and Saratoga but a program participant, which makes it easier to withdraw his participation.

He also made it clear that writing is not the only thing he is doing today and that there's a number of projects where he is currently involved. He is reportedly still editing the latest volume of the “Wild Card” anthology series and has three new television concepts in various stages of development. He is also consulting on a couple of video games and planning for a “Wild Cards” movie where he is going to play as the producer.

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” Season 5 is set to premiere on April 12, Sunday. Check out the short trailer here courtesy of Game of Thrones YouTube channel.
