A subreddit page dedicated to sharing the leaked nude images from messaging site Snapchat was created on message board Reddit after reports of the hacks came out on Oct 10. However, the board's Snappening community insisted it only discusses the leaked images.

But BusinessInsider reports that the bulk of the posts in the subreddit are requests to share the links to child pornography since majority of Snapchat users are minors. The nude photos were leaked from Snapsaved, a third-party Snapchat site.

Besides requests to share the download links, some of the posts want to know the identity of the Snapchat users whose embarrassing images were hacked and leaked online. Other posts include asking until when would the subreddit community remain until it is banned similar to what happened to another community with images of the hacked celebrity nude photos in the Fappening scandal removed by Reddit.

The six Snappening subreddit moderators control the postings, especially links to confirmed child pornography sites, but the links could remain online for 24 hours before it is removed. To go around the ban, subreddit users meet only on the page but communicate links and images in private.

Since sharing hacked image is not considered illegal under US laws, Reddit does not ban such photos, but the exception is if the image is that involving minors since child pornography is banned under the law.

Snapsaved could no longer be accessed, but similar apps still exist, and it still has a Facebook page. In that fan page, Snapsaved said that as soon as it discovered the breach in its system, it deleted the entire Web site and data base. Its FB administrator said only 500MB of images were compromised, not 13GB. The administrator said Snapsaved tried to clean its database of inappropriate image, insinuating it went through all the images that were saved on Snapsaved's server.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that there are few credible sources of information regarding the issue, and most of the information are only from anonymous users. One Reddit user pointed out that 4,000 images belong to 320 Snapchat usernames based on the corresponding number of snaps sent.
