The CW Network premiered its new comedy series titled “Significant Mother” on Monday night. The main cast of the half hour show are Josh Zuckerman (“90210”) as Nate Marlowe, Nathaniel Buzolic (“The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals”) as Nate’s best friend, Jimmy Barnes and Krista Allen (“Days of Our Lives”) as Nate’s mom, Lydia Marlowe.

Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major “Significant Mother” spoilers.

In the pilot episode titled “Welcome to Bonetown,” Nate Marlowe returns from a business trip to find out that his mother and best friend are now in a relationship. The weird and awkward revelation even happened on Nate’s birthday.

Lydia Marlowe tries to explain to Nate what happened but Nate becomes more upset and angry because Lydia’s relationship with Jimmy is unacceptable to him. Nate continues to freak out after Lydia blurted out that her affair with Jimmy is not just a one-night stand.

It is Jimmy’s turn to talk to Nate and explain the situation. Nate declares he is upset because Jimmy threw away their friendship over meaningless sex with his mom. But Jimmy insists that what happened between him and Lydia was not meaningless and he may have feelings for her.

Harrison Marlowe, played by Jonathan Silverman, wants to find out who Lydia is sleeping with. Harrison declares that he wants Lydia back in his life because he does not like the trial separation they are currently going through.

Harrison also becomes upset after finding out from Lydia that Nate’s best friend Jimmy is the new man in her life. At the park, Nate and Jimmy continue to argue about the consequences of Jimmy’s relationship with Lydia.

Nate declares that he can no longer be friends with Jimmy because of what he did. However, Jimmy insists that they should settle things through an old-fashioned way called “Hop and Scotch.”

Jimmy tells Nate that if he wins, he can bail on their friendship. “But if I win, you have to give me your blessing and get through this like grown men,” Jimmy declares.

Jimmy wins the “Hop and Scotch” game which makes Nate more angry. Harrison arrives at the park to confront Jimmy.

Lydia stops the three men in her life from fighting each other. Then, Lydia declares she will be doing what makes her happy until she figures out what she really wants in her life.

Sam Dillinger, played by Emma Fitzpatrick, comfort Nate at the Lincoln restaurant with a birthday song about Jimmy and Lydia’s relationship. Then, Nate heads home only to be welcomed by Jimmy and Lydia who still want to do some damage control.

Jimmy and Lydia tell Nate about their decision to end their relationship but Nate finally gives his blessing. Nate tells his mom that he does want her to be happy even though he finds the relationship weird.

Then, Jimmy takes the opportunity to finally give his gift to Nate. The birthday present is a video tape of Jimmy showing Nate childhood photos and reliving memories from the past.

However, things turned awkward again for Nate when Jimmy’s birthday message in the video tape got cut short to show a video recording of Jimmy and Lydia getting intimate on the couch.. “Significant Mother” will return with episode 2 titled “Mixed Doubles” on Monday night, Aug. 10, at 9:30/8:30c on the CW Network.
