Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been “dreamlike” to work with, their “By the Sea” co-star Melanie Laurent said. The French actress only has praises for the Hollywood power couple, calling them great and amazing.

Laurent, 31, joined the newly married couple on their honeymoon on a small island in Malta to film the drama “By the Sea,” Jolie and Pitt’s first film together since “Mr & Mrs Smith” in 2005. The film, written and directed by Jolie, tells the story of a couple whose marriage has been falling apart. As the couple grow apart from each other, they begin to get close to other people.

“She’s a great director and she wrote a really beautiful script,” Laurent told the Hollywood Reporter of Jolie. She added that she was initially overwhelmed with working with the couple, but Jolie and Pitt’s humble attitude changed that.

“She’s great, she’s calm. She really loves actors. She has a real respect for us and I felt so lucky she chose me. And Brad was amazing, too. It was two dreamlike months, working with them,” she continued. “They are really, really amazing actors and they respect everybody. They are just super simple people.”

As a director herself, Laurent said she shares the same method of loving the actors with Jolie. Since they are both actresses who sometimes dabble behind the camera, she and Jolie understand the actors’ language. She also described Jolie’s directing method as open and collaborative.

“She lets you be really free. She trusts you,” she said of Jolie, adding that she loves working with the mother of six.

Laurent’s account of her experience with working with the Jolie-Pitt couple doesn’t correspond to tabloid reports that Jolie was regretting hiring her. Apparently, Pitt’s “flirty” relationship with the younger actress, who was also his co-star in “Inglourious Basterds,” was wreaking havoc to the married couple’s own relationship.

Meanwhile, Pitt is filling in for his wife, who recently revealed she’s suffering from chickenpox. Jolie was forced to cancel her upcoming appearances for her film “Unbroken” events when she learnt that she caught the disease this weekend. Her husband didn’t seem to be suffering from it, though, as he covered for her at the “Unbroken” Roger Deakins Image Exhibition in Los Angeles on Sunday. Pitt attended the event minus Jolie to mingle with other guests and stars.
