There will be new showrunners on the upcoming second season of MTV’s horror-mystery series “Scream: The TV Series,” as developer and executive producer Jill Blotevogal and co-executive producer Jaime Paglia bow out from the show’s production team. “Scream: The TV Series” Season 2 is expected to explore the cliffhanger ending of the pilot season about the accomplice of the Ghostface killer in Lakewood. [Spoiler Alert!]

According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Michael Gans and Richard Register will be the new executive producers of “Scream: The TV Series” Season 2 from Dimension Television. THR further reports that Paglia will no longer be a part of the MTV series, but Blotevogel will continue to be involved in “Scream: The TV Series” Season 2 as a consultant.

Unnamed sources claimed that Dimension TV producers were discontented with the creative direction of the television adaptation of the hit slasher film series “Scream,” which starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. Blotevogel told THR in an interview during the start of “Scream: The TV Series” Season 1 that there was the potential for the 1996 film “Scream” to reboot as an anthology series.

Blotevogel stated at the Comic-Con that the producers were hoping to maintain most of the TV series’ cast members on board for upcoming seasons. However, Hypable reports that the pilot season of “Scream: The TV Series” received mixed reviews from fans and critics, with some commenting that the show simply tried to repeat the storyline of the “Scream” films’ lead character.

The finale episode of “Scream: The TV Series” revealed that the Ghostface killer is podcaster Piper Shaw (Amelia Rose Blaire), the half-sister of Emma Duvall (Willa Fitzgerald). In the third instalment of the “Scream” film franchise, lead character Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) found out that the Ghostface killer is her half-brother Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), and he was the one who killed their mother, Maureen Prescott (Lynn McRee).

Audrey Jensen (Bex Taylor-Klaus) saved her friend Emma and her mom, Maggie (Tracy Middendorf), when she shot the Ghostface killer in the pilot season’s finale, but it was revealed that she has been helping Piper with her plans. Aside from exploring the character of Audrey Jensen as the second Ghostface killer, “Scream: The TV Series” Season 2 is also expected to explore Emma’s life after the Lakewood murders.
