Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitz in ABC’s political drama series “Scandal,” has joked that he expected his character to get “a little more sugar” for going to war to save Olivia Pope after she was kidnapped by Vice President's men. At PaleyFest 2015, the actor also said that Olivia and Fitz are meant to be together.

The mid-season finale episode of Season 4 saw the abduction of Olivia because the Vice President wanted the President to go to war with West Angola, which by the way is a fictional country. To save Olivia, President Fitz started the war but that did not bring Olivia back home, instead it resulted in the death of American soldiers. It is the old gladiator Stephen Finch who returned to rescue Olivia after he bought her in a live auction.

After Olivia returned home, she and Fitch had a shouting match. She shut him up by saying that he failed as a President by sending innocent soldiers into harm’s way and some of them to their deaths for one person. Also, she reminded him that he did not save her and that she is on her own. She threw the ring, which he had given her, at him.

At PaleyFest 2015, Goldwyn said that he “was hoping for a little more sugar" for Fitz after he went to war to save Olivia, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR). But, that did not happen. Also, episode 13, “No More Blood,” gave the impression that Olivia and Fitz’s relationship may have reached a dead-end.

When THR asked Goldwyn whether it was time to end Olivia and Fitz’s romance, the actor said “no way.” He said that Olivia and Fitz “deserve to be together -- and will be together.” Goldwyn said that he does not know what the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, has on her mind but according to him, “... as dark a place as they're [Olivia and Fitz] at right now, I don't think his determination has waivered.”

Goldwyn is not alone in his support for the "Scandal" couple, as a majority of "Scandal" cast memebrs are rooting for Olivia and Fitz. Scott Foley, who plays Jake, Bellamy Young, who plays Mellie, Katie Lowes, who plays Quinn, Jeff Perry, who plays Cyrus, Josh Malina, who plays David, and Guillermo Diaz, who plays Huck, have said that Olivia and Fitz’s relationship is far from being over and that it should not end, according to THR's report.
