Samsung has apparently used “plastic material” in place of “glass substrate” for the curved-edged AMOLED display of the Galaxy S6 Edge. This material is apparently used in order to perfect the flexible display on both the sides of the handset. However, now, this one-of-a-kind Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has been put through several torture tests to determine the durability of the device.

Speaking of the unique Galaxy S6 Edge display, the double-edged screen could be called as a “bragging right,” however, when it comes to practical usage there’s is no significant advantage in owning such a device, notes Phone Arena. But then, after subjecting the handset to drop test, water test and nutcracker test, the torture test results establish the fact that, the Samsung handset is not just unusual, it is apparently the most durable device among the recently released devices.

Going by the torture test videos, the Galaxy S6 Edge apparently goes through a free-fall from shoulder height and survives. Meanwhile, in another test, the rugged Galaxy S6 Edge is placed over the flagship Galaxy S6 and a nutcracker is used to break a walnut placed over them. Even in this case, the phones survive and come out unharmed. The point to be noted, however, is that the regular display clad flagship S6 does not come with the flexible plastic display and yet, it survived the nutcracker test. Notably, the flagship S6 comes with regular glass screen substrate. Therefore, no one knows at this point as to whether the devices survived because of the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection or the flexible display itself, notes Phone Arena. In any case, the screens of both Galaxy S6 devices seem solid, durable and noteworthy.

On the other hand, readers should note that, the Galaxy S6 Edge is only water splash-resistant and not water-proof and therefore, the device does not come with IP certification. However, in the next test, the handset is reportedly dipped in water for 20 minutes but it comes out unscathed. This proves that, the Galaxy S6 Edge can easily survive rain or even accidental drops in the bathtub, notes the same site.
