The Samsung Galaxy S5 was released in April, while the recently announced Oppo N3 will hit store shelves in November. Readers who are interested in the flagship Galaxy S5 or the one-of-a-kind Oppo N3 should check out this comparison.

Display, Design And Size

Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display packed with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. The Oppo N3, meanwhile, features a relatively bigger 5.5-inch IPS LCD display, but the resolution is same as the S5. The pixel densities of S5 and N3 boil are 432 ppi and 403 ppi, respectively.

When it comes to design, the Galaxy S5 features the same perforated/dotted rear panel design, which is similar to other high-end Samsung phones. However, the smartphone has a matte effect-laden plastic body instead of the glossy exterior seen in other Samsung devices, according to CNet.

The latest Oppo N3, on the other hand, has a relatively bulky build when compared with other smartphones with huge displays, namely the LG G3 and Galaxy Note 4. The N3 is very solid and offers a premium look, thanks to the industry-grade aluminium frame covering its sides. The back shell is made of a smooth plastic material. Thankfully, it is not shiny or slippery. Furthermore, the distinctive swivelling camera unit comes with a faux-leather covering like Samsung's Note lineup, says Stuff TV.

In terms of size, the thickness and the weight of Samsung and Oppo handsets are 0.32-inch and 145 g and 0.39-inch and 192 g, respectively. Evidently, the Oppo device is thicker and heavier compared with the S5.

Hardware, Software And Memory

Both devices are powered by the same quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor and backed by 2 GB of RAM. However, the processors of the Samsung and Oppo phones are clocked at 2.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz, respectively.

Moving on to the software powering the device, the Oppo N3 runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS with Color OS 2.0, while the Galaxy S5 runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS with TouchWiz UI on top of it. In terms of memory, the Samsung device comes with 16 GB and 32 GB of storage, while the Oppo N3 offers 32 GB storage. Both devices support microSD card slot for expansion up to 128 GB.

Camera And Battery

Both phones feature a killer 16 MP primary unit. While the S5 comes with LED flash, the N3 doubles the light effect with dual-LED flash support. Also, the S5 houses a 2 MP secondary unit, while Oppo N3's 16 MP unit is a unique swivelling (rotating) camera. The one-of-a-kind camera of the Oppo device includes a motorised rotating lens that can turn the unit automatically. This means that unlike the earlier models of Oppo, N3's camera don't need to be turned back and forth manually for capturing photos.

Adding cherry on top, Oppo N3 comes with a mini O-Click Bluetooth remote control. N3 users can utilise this remote to trigger the shutter and rotate the camera for panoramic clicks, reports Stuff TV. On battery configuration, the Oppo N3 is backed by a killer Li-Po 3000 mAh battery unit, whereas the Galaxy S5 has a Li-Ion 2800 mAh unit.

Additional Features

1. Both smartphones feature fingerprint sensor for unlocking the smartphone. Plus, the Galaxy S5 also supports mobile payments via the sensor Meanwhile, the Samsung device comes with a water- and dust- proof exterior (IP67 certified) while the Oppo device doesn't.

2. Both devices support 4G LTE and NFC; nonetheless, the Galaxy S5 also has an Infrared port. While the Samsung device uses micro-SIM, the Oppo phone is a dual-SIM variant and it employs a nano-SIM and a micro-SIM holder.

3. It is worth noting that the powerful battery unit in the Oppo device can be charged up to 75 percent within 30 minutes. The S5 supports wireless charging facility while the N3 doesn't.

Price

The Oppo N3 (32 GB) can be purchased for US$649 (AU$741). The Samsung Galaxy S5 (16 GB), on the other hand, is priced at AU$599.95.
