Samsung is gearing up for a number of new device releases, which includes a new hybrid smartphone-phablet; a rugged version of a much-awaited flagship device and its matching phablet; and a new wearable piece of technology.

Though the release date for the Samsung Galaxy S5 is still far off, the Korean company may be gearing for an Active version right off-the-bat. This is due to the positive reception of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. According to Phone Arena, its water-and-dust-resistant quality suits the more active lifestyle popular nowadays.

Also, instead of pulling down the specs to accommodate the "whoops"-proofed capabilities, the rugged Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 versions will still sport similar specs to their lesser version.

This would be a great marketing advantage for Samsung, as it will not force buyers to choose between a tougher phone and a higher spec'd one.

Samsung Galaxy J slated for Japanese market

Yes, the J probably stands for the country where this new Samsung gadget is headed to. In response to Sony marketing, who is also targeting a Japan-exclusive release for its Sony Xperia Z1 f, Samsung may introduce the Samsung Galaxy J in a modified version of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

According to CNet, the new smartphone has a screen at 5-inches, but it reportedly sports the Snapdragon 800 chip and 3GB of RAM. The design is also modified, taking after Samsung's newest devices, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, with a squarish body, but with smooth and rounded corners.

And given the market, there is also a bevy of colours to choose from, including pink, white, and blue.

Engadget adds that the device may be unveiled as part of its winter device lineup, which is slated for announcement come October 10.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Glass not far off?

Samsung has already gone the smartwatch route with the Galaxy Gear, and now it seems to be eyeing another up-and-coming segment in the tech industry.

Following the footsteps of Google--or rather hot on the heels of Google's already running Google Glass--rumours are now circulating that Samsung's next wearable technology after the Galaxy Gear would be the Gear Glass.

Taking the cue from Eldar Murtazin, known for his inside-info leaks, Phandroid reports that 2014 might be Samsung's target for the release of the Gear Glass, which is aimed to compete with the Google Glass.

Considering all the ideas that Google Glass has already put in the market, it won't be a surprise if Samsung also incorporates the likes of a built-in camera, access to online files, and tethering with Galaxy smartphones. It can make use of its latest V-NAND technology, which stacks memory chips on top of each other to be a space-saver, thus setting it apart from the existing smart glass versions out there.

According to other speculations, the Galaxy Gear might even make use of Samsung's flexible screen technology, which is slated to find its way to a still-unannounced smartphone device. If this is the case, a flexible screen would toughen the future Samsung Galaxy S5 even more and improve overall quality. Wouldn't this be a more inviting piece of technology for the more active and rugged users?
