Samsung Electronics lost a market capitalization value of $25.3 billion in May which is more than the value of Sony Corporation due to the failure of Galaxy S4 to meet expectations. Will this delay the Android 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy S3?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Sales Short?

Since the release of Galaxy S4 on April 26, 2013, Samsung which sells nearly one of every three mobile phones plunged 10.8 per cent as JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley lowered sales forecasts and cut profit estimates.

Manufacturers of high-end smartphones in the $358 billion mobile phone industry suffers from consumers holding back on buying expensive models that are not even considered as innovative. Included to the list of companies is Apple Inc with 9.4 per cent fall in the month of iPhone 5 releases, Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp sold smartphones costing around $100, equivalent to an eighth of Galaxy S4 price in South Korea.

"Consumers find no good reason to buy the S4 since it has no big difference with its predecessor. Chinese companies are becoming a bigger threat to Samsung than any other players," said by Oh Sang Woo, analyst at Leading Investment & Securities in Seoul.

Effect on the Galaxy S3 Official Update?

Some rumours pointed out the reason why Samsung delays the S3 official firmware update are due to the sales of Galaxy S4. Both devices are identical from one another and the innovation of S4 from the predecessor is not sufficient to cover its expensive price tag.

Samsung may be waiting for the official launching date of both Android 4.3 and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to give S4 a kick and ace on the market, thus giving it total advantage against S3. If Samsung releases the Android 4.2.2 firmware for S3, it will definitely affect sales record of S4 and giving more reasons for consumers to buy the previous generation.

Once Samsung releases the brand new Android 4.3 and 5.0 versions for Galaxy S4, consumers will have a great dilemma on choosing Galaxy S3 with an older Android 4.2 OS or Galaxy S4 with brand new features from Android 4.3 and Android 5.0. Samsung remains quite about the release date of Android 4.2.2 official update for Galaxy S3.

Retailers and network carriers are now offering Samsung Galaxy S4 under several contract deals and kept the S3 on the same price which sometimes higher than S4. Some shops even phased out the Galaxy S3 even the device is not yet obsolete.
