Samsung is expected to soon begin the official roll out of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its 2014 and 2015 flagship smartphones. There is no confirmation on whether older smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S3 will receive the upgrade. However, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now available for Galaxy S3 through CyanogenMod 13.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the flagship smartphone from 2012. It was launched with Android v4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and later on its users were able to upgrade to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS upgrade. However, the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS was not available for it and it goes without saying that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will not be available for Galaxy S3 users.

Nonetheless, according to Phone Arena, the Samsung Galaxy S3 can now upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow through CyanogenMod 13. The size of the latest Cyanogen Mod 13 build for Galaxy S3 is about 260 MB.

The CM 13 is a custom ROM nightly build which means it is not a stable. All the same, it does allow Galaxy S3 users to try the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a slim device with a thickness of 8.6 millimeters and weighs only 133 grams. It features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen that supports HD resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. It is shielded by Gorilla Glass 2.

Powered by an Exynos 4412 chipset that features a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and a Mali-400MP4 graphics, it is supported by 1 GB of RAM. The Galaxy S3 was launched in multiple storage options like 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. The external storage slot supports up to 64 GB of a micro SD card.

It comes with a rear camera of 8 MP along with LED flash whereas the front panel features a camera of 1.9 MP. The S3 also has battery of 2,100 mAh capacity.
