If you own a Galaxy S4 and is looking forward to updating to the new Android OS through custom ROM, then here are the steps.

Prerequisites before installing the custom ROM on Galaxy S4

Do not try installing crDroid Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM on any other devices, except for the Galaxy S4 GT-19505 international LTE models, states IBTimes.co.in. For installation, go to Settings, About Phone, then model number.

The installation improves performance and UI of the device, but there’s no warranty policy attached to it. Besides, you need to clear the phone memory before the installation, so it’s viable to get a back-up of all data by installing Clockwork Mod Recovery/TWRP in the smartphone.

Install a USB driver on the PC when syncing between the PC and the Galaxy S4. Most importantly, the smartphone should have more than 80% charge, otherwise, if the battery runs out in the middle of installation, the process won’t be complete.

Here’s how to upgrade the Samsung Galaxy S4 with custom ROM

After downloading Google Apps crDroid Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM on to your computer, connect the PC with Galaxy S4 (GT-19505) via a USB cord. Then, copy Google Apps.zip and the custom ROM zip file from the PC memory onto your phone’s SD card memory.

When done, turn off your mobile and disconnect it from the PC. Now, perform the Recovery Mode sortie by press holding ‘Home’, ‘Power’ and ‘Volume (up)’ buttons. Then, select ‘wipe data/factory’ reset to clear off the phone memory and ‘wipe cache partition’ to clear the cache memory.

On the main recovery screen, slowly tap ‘install zip from SD card’ that leads you to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM.zip file, as stored in the SD card. Repeat the same process for Google Apps.zip file.

Once installation is done, restart your mobile by selecting ‘reboot system now’ in the recovery menu. After rebooting process is complete, go to Settings, then About Phone to confirm the installation.
