Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of the world's first smartphone with a curved display.The Samsung Galaxy Round will be available in Korea from October 10. The images of the device reportedly leaked hours before the actual launch.

The new device has a 5.7 inch full HD Super AMOLED display. The screen is a curved TFT-LCD. The device is 7.9 mm in thickness and weighs 154 grams. The new design is expected to make the handling of large screen smartphones easier with one hand.

The curved design offers better ergonomics, according to analysts, as the device can easily wrap around the user's face while taking a call. Other smartphone manufacturers are expected to make similar announcements about their own smartphones with a curved display.

The Samsung Galaxy Round is reported to come with 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 3 GB of RAM. The device reportedly runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The device comes with a 32 GB or 64 GB internal memory which can be expanded via a micro SD card.

The device comes equipped with a 13 MP camera primary camera with auto focus and LED flash. The secondary camera on the device is 2 MP. The battery on the device is a 2800 mAh.

The unique design of the Samsung Galaxy Round allows users to make use of interesting features on the device, according to the press release. The Roll Effect for example allows users to check the date, time and missed calls et al, even while the home screen is off, by gently rolling the smartphone to one side.

The other exciting feature on the Samsung Galaxy Round is - The Gravity Effect, the feature is expected to enhance the user experience by offering greater visual interaction with the device by tilting it.

The Bounce UX feature is focussed on the music; users will be able to play the previous music track by a short press on the left, in order to play the next track users will need to short press on the right. All this is achieved even while the screen is off and while the music player is running.

The Side mirror feature enables users to view the list of albums containing pictures on the device; the user needs to tilt the Samsung Galaxy Round to the left and right to access this feature.

The Samsung Galaxy Round will currently roll out in South Korea and an International launch is also expected. Will the new curved display impress the fans?
