New reports on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 5 have emerged. If the reports are true, the Note 5 will gain a popular feature not found on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The successor to the Galaxy Note 5 will reportedly sport a microSD expansion slot and is said to launch on Aug. 13 at an event in New York.

Samsung is preparing itself to counter its largest smartphone competitor, Apple, in the following weeks. Samsung has launched each of its Galaxy Note models in September at the IFA in Berlin. Just last year, the company introduced the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. However, Samsung has changed their game plan by moving up the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to August in an effort to avoid colliding with the impending iPhone 6s and 6s Plus’ expected launch in September.

Tech Times recently reported that the Verizon and AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge plus have received FCC certification to run on AT&T and Verizon’s 4G LTE networks. Many reports have claimed that the Galaxy Note 5 would follow the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge by no longer sporting a microSD expansion slot and a removable battery. However, a new report has claimed that the Galaxy Note 5 will have a microSD expansion slot. A Polish reporter found out that the device is listed as having a microSD expansion slot that can support up to 128 GB microSDXC cards.

As for the release date, reports claim Samsung was planning to announce the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus at an event on Aug 12, but a new report from Business Korea says the event will take place on Aug 13. Samsung has yet to release a statement on these reports but if the reports are indeed true, then fans of the Galaxy Note 5 will be excited for the next phablet.
