Google Nexus 6 is the new smartphone in town, making all the right noises in the cyber space for housing cutting-edge specs. However, there is a bad news for the most-anticipated Google device. Phone Arena's custom battery life test results are out, where the Nexus 6 was pitted against the existing ones ruling the roost. The phone gets beaten down by its archrival Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and also by Motorola DROID turbo.

In retrospect, the 2013 Nexus 5 smartphone achieved only 4 hours and 50 minutes in the custom battery test. Notably, the Nexus 5 houses a not-so-impressive battery unit of 2,300 mAh. Nevertheless, the 2013 flagship device was being sold at a dirt-cheap price of $349. Hence, the inferior battery life issue was overlooked, according to Phone Arena.

On the other hand, the humongous 2014 flagship Nexus 6 comes bundled with a powerful 3,220 mAh battery unit. The flipside, however, is that the device is not as cheap as its 2013 counterpart. The Nexus 6 retails at a whopping $649, which is nearly double the price of the Nexus 5. In this case, battery or any other problems cannot be overlooked. Readers should note that, the higher the display resolution, the hungrier the handset becomes, with respect to power.

And it is no surprise that, the Nexus 6 comes with a massive 5.9-inch display and Quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. As it turns out, among all the Nexus devices released thus far, the Nexus 6 has managed to score respectably in the custom test and the score is 7 hours and 53 minutes. This is a major improvement from the predecessor. Despite this, when the device is pitted against other QHD phablets and phones, the Nexus 6 did not fare well. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Motorola DROID Turbo managed 8 hours 43 minutes and ultimate 10 hours 42 minutes duration, respectively. From the table below, even though Sony Xperia Z3 trumped Nexus 6, it comes with only 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution.

The silver lining, however, is that the Nexus 6 is one of the best devices in the market with quick charging capability. The handset can be charged from 0 percent to 100 percent within 98 minutes. Also, the Galaxy Note 4 shares the same charging duration with the Nexus 6. But then, the ultimate winner in this category is the Oppo Find 7/Find 7A.
