Tennis top players Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic already secured spots on the quarter finals of the Wimbledon 2012. An imminent battle of the tennis royals is about to unfold.

Djokovic, Federer and Russian Mikhail Youzhny are the three men that successfully secured a spot in the final eight.

Djokovic outplayed Serbian player and good friend Viktor Troicki and defended his crown with end results of 6-3 6-1 6-3.

"I think I played really well throughout the whole match. We know each other so well - the first match we played against each other he was nine years old, I was eight years old back in Serbia in a local tournament," Djokovic said.

"So there are no secrets between us and it's never easy to play your very good friend, somebody you grew up with, but today there had to be one loser," The rank number 1 added.

16-time major winner Roger Federer, on the other hand, beaten up Belgian tennis veteran Xavier Malisse making it her 33rd successive grand slam quarter-final with a 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 4-6 6-3.

During his match, Federer needed a medical timeout to take painkillers before beating the Belgian player. Their match lasted for two hours and 11 minutes.

The exciting match between Djokovic and Federer may happen this Friday.

With the adequate days to rest, Federer is confident that he can beat the rank number 1 in a showdown. Federer said that his back problems will not be a problem. He just hoped that it will not hinder him on one of the greatest matches in his life.

The 31-year-old Swiss tennis player said that cold and windy conditions undoubtedly contributed to his suffering with his match also delayed at one stage because of the rain.

The match will be exciting as the all-time grand slam title leader can steal the title as world's No.1 if he matches Pete Sampras's record seven Wimbledon crowns this week. It is also a dream come true for the Swiss superstar to level with Sampras for the longest total reign as world No1 - 286 weeks.
