World No. 2 Roger Federer has qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals after reaching the US Open quarterfinal on Tuesday at Flushing Meadows. Federer will join world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and world No. 3 Andy Murray in the ATP World Tour finale at The O2 in London from Nov. 15-22.

Federer took the third slot in the season finale’s elite eight-man field, breaking his own record with a 14th successive appearance. The Swiss Maestro, who will be gunning for his seventh ATP World Tour title crown, felt great about qualifying too early, saying that he is looking forward to compete at the competition that has a “truly amazing” atmosphere.

"It's a great feeling to be able to qualify so early," Federer told ATP’s official website. "I can't believe it has been 14 years in a row and I look forward to returning to London in November.”

Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Tomas Berdych, two-time former finalist Rafael Nadal, and 2007 runner-up David Ferrer are also featured in the Top 8 of the Emirates ATP Race To London standings, bidding to join the top three players in the world rankings with just five slots remaining.

Federer, the most successful player to compete at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, has a 48-11 record in the tournament, along with a record six titles. The Swiss international captured five ATP World titles this season, which includes his final round victory against Djokovic in Cincinnati two weeks before the US Open.

Federer reached the quarterfinals of the US Open for the 11th time after a tight three-set win against American John Isner 7-6(0) 7-6(6) 7-5. The match was Federer’s fourth win in five matches against Isner, and his 13th consecutive win over an American opponent at the US Open. The 34-year-old Swiss will face Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the final eight round of the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.

After the match, Federer said it was fun to play against Isner and called the 30-year-old American one of the best servers in professional tennis. "It's a lot of fun to play in a night session match. I thought tonight was very special," Federer said, the USA Today reported. "John is one of the best servers in the game.”
